Picking out names for your baby is never easy—deciding on one feels overwhelmingly special, though a bit anxiety-provoking as well. Even more so if you’re having multiples!
Many of us ask ourselves, over and over again:
– Will they like their name?
– Will they change it as soon as they turn 18?
– Will they write it across every spiral notebook between scratched-filled hearts and end every e-mail with their rightful signature and favorite emoji?
– Will they feel confident, proud, when they speak of themselves?
– Will they gasp in horror at their initials?—something we may have innocently neglected to consider.
It’s a never-ending name-granting abyss out here. And certainly we know that a child’s inner-confidence is not shaped by their name itself but by what surrounds and nurtures that name: love, acceptance, courage, honesty, kindness, creativity, purposefulness. But we also don’t want a name to cause them harm, if we can control it.
Naming Our Boy/Girl Twins

When we found out we were pregnant with boy/girl twins, the name game had us stumped for a bit. We’d finally love two names but they just didn’t sound good together, like something was off, singing out-of-tune, ya know? We’d find a unique name for our little girl and then struggle to find one we liked just as much for our little boy. And so, the name-game continued on for several months. Swinging and missing. Until it just happened.
My husband loved the name Isabella, and it was Isabelle, Isabelle Annora, that felt right to me. I loved quite a few names for our little guy but my husband just wasn’t biting. Until I stumbled across… wait for it… Onyx. Yup, Onyx Troy. That was him and we knew it.
Here’s our twin name list from the time during our pregnancy, with some new ones added in just for fun. For now, our family is complete so we’d love to share these names for future twin parents out there. When it feels right for both of you, it’s right. Don’t question it!
Many of these sweet & strong names are also gender-neutral, too!

Remember, naming your child is challenging on so many levels but knowing your love for them and how that name will be nurtured and protected will only (hopefully) allow your child to embrace it as well. And hey, if they simply cannot adopt it for whatever reason, it can always be changed. In the meantime, I’ll soak up my twinsies, Isabelle Annora and Onyx Troy.

Happy naming!
